Story Background — The Unawakening Dream of the Birch Forest

Deep within a forest lived a fractured family who made a living through a small campsite. An aging forest ranger grandfather raised his grandson and granddaughter, relying on government support and the money sent home by their daughter who worked far away.

The grandson had a gift for photography—his warm and intimate style drew visitors from afar, slowly turning their humble life into a small but thriving camping ground.

But talent breeds envy. A friend, consumed by jealousy, watched silently as the boy’s work gained recognition. When the grandson received a niche photography award, that envy finally ignited into something darker.

Under the guise of friendship, he stayed the night in their home—and while they slept, he set the house ablaze.

Smoke woke the boy. He rushed to save his younger sister and their elderly grandfather. As flames devoured the house, the two fought desperately to push the girl to safety. In the final moments before the structure collapsed, the grandfather chose to leave his chance of survival to the boy.

The boy survived—barely. The grandfather did not.

By the time the fire grew uncontrollable, the friend, shaken from his hatred, finally called for help.

Both the boy and the girl fell into deep comas.

The story unfolds within the dream of the unconscious girl.

She opens her eyes. Closes them. Struggles to open them again. She believes she is dead.Yet something deep within tells her otherwise—that she is alive, that she can still return home, that her family is waiting, and that the house still stands untouched.

Guided by this fragile belief, she walks through the familiar birch forest on her way home.

But along the path, shadows gather.Twisted figures, strangers, and monstrous forms emerge—each trying to stop her from moving forward.

After overcoming countless horrors, she finally reaches her home—

Only to find it transformed into a towering, monstrous being.

She fights. She destroys it.

And then—

Her brother appears.

He tells her she cannot leave. She must not leave.

But she refuses to believe him.

And so—she wakes up.

Back in reality, she sees her brother still lying beside her, unmoving.

This time, she makes a choice.

She returns to the dream—

To save him.
